Evernote free note manager : Lifehacker

Evernote is a personal database of text and handwritten notes, web page clippings and document snippets (think Excel sheet bits). It’s got versioning (a record of all the changes you’ve made to a note over time), passwording, categorizing, search and drag and drop. It doesn’t let you access EverNote(s) from other computers, which is a deal-breaker for multi-platform types. But useful for Windows folks who primarily work on a single PC for a big project or job.
