Jon Udell: Simple single sign-on

Today’s 2.75-minute screencast features Nic Wolff’s ingenious solution to the vexing problem of single sign-on to websites. I’ve mentioned it before, but I suspect few outside the geek community read those postings or “got it” if they did. We’ll see if this narrated visual demonstration can manage to cross over.

Using the principles behind such innovations as “warchalking” — the process of manually noting, with chalk, in real-life, where to find wi-fi signals — I’ve begun the process of “wartagging,” namely, the process of aggressively tagging things around mein order to unclutter my own personal data. After this is done, I plan to go to my friends’ houses and do the same thing.

O’Reilly Radar > My favorite use of Backpack

O’Reilly Radar > My favorite use of Backpack

You’ve probably heard about Backpack already, and it’s very much worth checking out. I’ve been testing it for a few weeks now, and I wound up with a work pattern for it that seems worth documenting.

Backpack will send you the contents of any page as email, and will accept email to any page as a way of adding to it. The format of the email containing a page’s contents is exactly the same as the format it accepts to add to a page. In other words, email is a round-trip format for Backpack content: Backpack -> Email -> Backpack.

How to Make a Jedi Robe

I had never made anything resembling clothing before so patterns from the store were out of the question (too complicated). When you make your robe, think of it as a Mexican poncho that goes over your head, rests on your shoulders and happens to be sewn up the sides to make sleeves.

The Elmore Leonard Interview Podcast: The Hot Kid

Elmore Leonard’s, The Hot Kid, hits stores May 10; hear Leonard talk about his newest book.

Basically our little radio show is devoted to who else? Elmore Leonard.

In Podcast #1, we discuss The Hot Kid.

The format is mono to keep file size low , but if you have dial-up, you probably won%u2019t think so. I will be setting the site up shortly for an RSS feed with enclosures and let you know how to take advantage of this convenience if you don%u2019t know already.

Sauce Reader 2.0 Made Public

Well it is finally here. My favorite news reader/blog client Sauce Reader v 2.0 is now public. If you thought you liked version 1 or maybe you didn’t get a chance to give version 1 a try–go get Sauce Reader 2.0.

Here’s the press release:

We’re very proud of this version and think it is a huge improvement over the Sauce Reader 1.x series. We’d love the extra promotion if you want to blog or write about Sauce Reader 2.

We know there will still be problems and suggestions for this early 2.0 release, but felt the time had come to take it public. Please feel free to use this mailing list or the newsgroup to make any suggestions or comments on this version:
